Card with a working QR

QR code business card generator

A QR code on a business card only works if it points somewhere useful and renders cleanly at print size. Kleido handles both. Toggle the QR option, set the destination URL, and the code is composed into the card layout at a size that scans reliably from a typical phone distance.

Because the QR is generated as part of the card itself — not pasted in afterwards — its placement, contrast, and quiet zone are designed to fit the brand instead of fighting it. You can swap the destination later without regenerating the whole card.

How it works

  1. Step 01

    Toggle the QR option

In the generator form, enable QR. By default, the QR points to the same URL you used as the card source, which is usually the right thing — your card sends scanners to your site.

  2. Step 02

    Pick a custom destination (optional)

Override the default if you want the QR to point to a calendar link, a portfolio, a vCard download, or a social profile. The QR is regenerated from the new URL on the next preview update.

  3. Step 03

Let the AI place it correctly

Kleido lays out the QR with appropriate sizing, sufficient quiet zone, and contrast that matches the card's palette. On a dark card, the QR uses an inverted treatment to stay scannable. On a light card, it uses the brand's ink color rather than pure black so it fits the system.

  4. Step 04

    Verify the scan, then print

Before you order, scan the on-screen QR with your phone to confirm the destination. Then choose the card size and print quantity. The QR remains crisp because it is rendered as a vector, not a low-resolution bitmap.

Use cases

Replacing the contact block

Skip the wall of phone-email-LinkedIn text on the back of the card. A single QR linking to a vCard or contact page captures everything in one scan.

Pointing to a booking link

For consultants, coaches, and freelancers, the QR can drop scanners directly into a Calendly or Cal.com booking page so a card hand-off becomes a booked meeting.

Conference badges and swag

A QR on the card that goes to a per-event landing page lets you measure how many scans the card produced and what visitors did next.

Personal portfolios

Designers, writers, and developers can point the QR at their portfolio while keeping the card itself minimal. The card is the bait; the portfolio is the catch.

About QR code business card generator

QR codes have practical print constraints. They need a clear quiet zone — empty space around the code — to scan reliably. They need enough contrast between the code modules and the background. They cannot be too small or too compressed by JPEG artifacts. Kleido handles all of that automatically: the QR is rendered as a vector with appropriate margin and is sized to the card's footprint, not a fixed pixel value.

If you change your mind about the destination after printing, you can update a tracked or shortened URL on your end without reprinting cards — the QR points to your URL, and your URL points wherever you want.

For repeat printings, it is worth setting the QR destination to a redirect you control rather than a permanent third-party page. That gives you a single dial to turn when you want to swap the landing page, run a campaign-specific variant, or retire a destination entirely. Kleido does not host the redirect for you, but any short-link service or first-party route works — the QR encodes whatever URL you give it, and the redirect on your side decides where scanners ultimately land.

Frequently asked questions

Can the QR point to anything?

Any HTTPS URL works: a website, a vCard, a booking page, a social profile, a tracking link. Kleido does not validate the destination beyond URL formatting.

How big is the QR on the printed card?

Roughly 0.8–1.0 inches square depending on layout, with a quiet zone built in. That is well above the size needed for reliable scanning at arm's length.

Will the QR survive a brand color treatment?

Yes — the AI adjusts contrast so QRs on darker brand backgrounds stay scannable. If you push the design to an extreme color combination that fails contrast, regenerate or move the QR.

Can I change the QR destination after printing?

Not directly — the printed QR encodes a fixed URL. If you want a swappable destination, point the QR at a redirect you control (a short link, a tracking domain, or a landing page) and change the redirect server-side.

Does Kleido track QR scans?

No. The generated QR is a static vector that points where you tell it. If you want analytics, use a tracking link as the destination.
